Homemade ornament treasures
Art teacher Beth Jeffers has been incredibly busy this fall. For the last couple of years Mrs. Jeffers has had her art students grades 3-8 create ceramic ornaments. This means not only that many little hands are sculpting and painting and creating, but that Mrs. Jeffers has over 250 ornaments to fire in the art department kiln in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
“The kiln was struggling this fall, too,” Mrs. Jeffers says with a laugh when recounting her monumental task. “But I managed to get them all fired in time!”
Mrs. Jeffers and parent volunteer Kristin Collins transformed the tree in the lobby of the Fritzsche Worship and Performing Arts Center, with the goal of having all the ornaments placed by the first Christmas concert Friday, December 6 at 7:00 pm.
“I’m so proud of all of the students,” Mrs. Jeffers says, as she surveys the finished tree. “The kids seem to enjoy the project and it’s just so interesting to see their different personalities come through in the creative process.”
Take a moment to admire the hard work of Mrs. Jeffers and her students as you enter the Fritzsche Worship and Performing Arts Center in the next two weeks for our Christmas concerts!
