My name is Heather Wright, and I am delighted to join Spring Valley Academy as the new K-12 Art Teacher. After many years working in admissions in higher education, I believe God had another plan for my career. He opened the door for a lifelong dream of mine to become a reality, and I am honored to teach fine art at a Christian school that loves Jesus and values the arts as an important part of a well-rounded education.
Outside of school, I enjoy painting, gardening, hiking, and spending time with my husband, Darren Haper, and our flame point Siamese cat, Cornelius, who has quite the personality.
I’m excited to help students discover their creativity, build confidence, and see the beauty of God’s creation through art. One of my favorite bible verses is Psalm 37:4, “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” A fun fact about myself is I can juggle three basketballs at once! I feel truly blessed to be a part of the Spring Valley Academy family and am looking forward to meeting the faculty, families, and students this school year.
The art room is a light-filled space, designed to enhance artistic energy. The program also boasts a ceramics room, with a dedicated kiln. Beyond just learning how to create art using the elements and principles of art, the organizational concept of visual literacy is studied.
Over the years, the art department has enjoyed Art Tours (traveling nationally and internationally) and promotes student work in the hallways and in the lobby of the Fritzsche Center for Worship and Performing Arts.
